Please ask our technical support representatives about modified GPL and applicable modules, and how to deliver them. You may be charged for the delivery cost. [Software Description] This software will update the TS5020 and TS3030 series TeraStations’ firmware to version 3.06. If your unit’s firmware is already version 3.06 or later, you don’t need this update. If your unit’s firmware is not yet version 2.98, update it to version 2.98 first. If your unit is in emergency mode and you want to recover from it, use the updater for version 2.98. [How to Verify the Firmware Version] Select your TeraStation from NAS Navigator2. The firmware version is displayed on the bottom right corner of the window. [Updating Firmware] • Do not turn off the TeraStation until the firmware update is completed and the “Finished” message appears. • If this TeraStation’s firmware is version 1.63 or earlier, a message about iSCSI may appear during the firmware update process, even if your TeraStation model does not support iSCSI. In such a case, if any iSCSI volumes are connected to a device, disconnect them using the iSCSI initiator before proceeding with the update. If there are no iSCSI volumes connected, or if your TeraStation model doesn’t support iSCSI, continue the update process. [Notes] • Make sure the TeraStation’s MTU size is set to a value smaller than that of the hub or router. Larger MTU sizes may not allow data to be transferred to the TeraStation properly. • This firmware will send your usage information to Buffalo automatically. For more details such as the information sent and how it will be handled by us, refer to the privacy policy from https://www.buffalo.jp/contents/support/privacy_usage_feedback/. To disable this function, open Settings after updating the firmware to this version, then navigate to ‘Management’ > ‘Update’ > ‘Edit’ and disable “Update Notification”. For more detailed information, refer to the user manual of your TeraStation model. • If settings are initialized with an iSCSI volume that had been created using an LVM-enabled drive or array, that iSCSI volume mode may be displayed as “NAS”, instead of “iSCSI” on the NAS volume list. Even if in such a case, the iSCSI volume remains accessible via the iSCSI initiator. • If you are using firmware version 1.20 or earlier, data may be erased from OneDrive when renaming or moving folders on OneDrive and OneDrive Sync is enabled on the TeraStation with bidirectional sync mode and either a 1, 5, or 10 minute-sync period configured. Please update the firmware to the latest version. • If OneDrive Sync is enabled on a TeraStation that is in bidirectional sync mode, either of the following operations may cause a subfolder and the files within to be deleted during sync: 1) A subfolder is deleted from the TeraStation’s shared folder at the same time a new file is created in or moved into the same subfolder in the OneDrive folder. 2) A subfolder is deleted from the OneDrive folder at the same time a new file is created in or moved into the same subfolder in the TeraStation’s shared folder. In such a case, recover the deleted files from the OneDrive recycle bin before the retention period expires. • Disable any antivirus software on the computer that will run the updater before updating the firmware. • It is recommended to connect to the computer via a wired connection for updating the firmware. [For Customers Using Replication] To securely copy your data via replication, a backup device access key must be configured for the replication target. Please make sure you have installed the latest firmware downloaded from the Buffalo website onto your TeraStation and verify that a backup device access key has been configured on the replication target folder for any configured replication jobs. Refer to the “Replication” section in the user manual of your TeraStation model for the procedure to configure a backup device access key to the replication target folder. If you are replicating devices over different subnets or through NAT abstraction, using a VPN is recommended for network security. [About Firmware Version] If you update the firmware from your TeraStation’s Settings, you may see a different firmware version than the one uploaded on the Buffalo website. The firmware version uploaded on the Buffalo website is the latest version. [Issues Occurring After the Firmware Update] • If the I61 message appears as a notification, open Settings, select the option under “Action” to “Recover firmware”, and click ‘OK’. • If the “The parameters for the specified method are invalid.” error message appears while changing settings on Settings, clear the browser cache and try again. [How to Update the Firmware] 1. Connect the TeraStation and a computer to run the updater on the same network subnet. The subnet masks should be the same and the first three numbers of the IP addresses should be the same. The last number of the IP addresses should be different. For example, if the IP address and subnet mask of the computer are “192.168.0.10/255.255.255.0” and the IP address and subnet mask of the TeraStation are “192.168.1.150/255.255.255.0”, then the updater will not work properly. In such a case, reconfigure the TeraStation’s IP address and subnet mask to “192.168.0.150/255.255.255.0”. Then, the devices will be on the same subnet and the updater will work properly. 2. Exit all applications. Also, stop or exit any firewall software. 3. Extract the downloaded file and run “TSUpdater.exe”. When a TeraStation is detected, an update window will open. 4. If multiple TeraStations are connected to the network, select which TeraStation to update. 5. Click ‘Update’ and enter the TeraStation’s admin password. 6. Click ‘OK’. 7. It will take several minutes for the firmware to update. During the update process, the info LED will blink. Don’t disconnect or power down the TeraStation until the update is finished. 8. When the update is finished, a message will be displayed. [Drives] • Now includes the storage balancing feature, which allows you to check and re-arrange allocated capacities on volumes to potentially increase free space. While the storage balancing process is running, the Settings interface may not work properly due to a high load. In such a case, wait until the process finishes, or cancel the storage balancing process by shutting down the TeraStation. Use the power button to shut down the TeraStation by pressing and holding it for three seconds. The shutdown process may not begin due to the system being overloaded. Even in such a case, try the shutdown procedure a few times. Do not press and hold the power button for more than 10 seconds. This will trigger a forced shutdown and may result in data corruption.
